The week of May 13-19, skilled nursing centers around the country observed National Skilled Nursing Care Week. Our community joined in with a week of exciting activities. We started with a recipe sharing day and enjoyed a delicious lemon chiffon cake from a 100 year old recipe contributed by a family member. Our ice cream social was a hit and made us realize that everyone loves ice cream! However, the most
memorable part of the week were our reminiscing sessions. This year's theme, "Celebrating Life's Stories", was designed to be a tribute to the experiences that have shaped residents' lives. Sharing life stories was a wonderful way for families, staff and residents to connect.
One of the best stories at our community was shared by resident Donna Taylor. She relayed her life event as a 4-H volunteer in her home state of Iowa where she met and worked for Elvis Presley! One of her duties included making sure that his wardrobe was in tip-top shape. Her eyes lit up as she described a special dinner invitation she accepted from Elvis for doing such an outstanding job. Hands down, we all loved her story!
